For this exhibition, Seattle painter Gillian Theobald presents a continuation on her series entitled Night & Day. Working in diptych format, Gillian paints landscapes, juxtaposing Night & Day images of the same scene into one viewing. The paintings are more about light space and form than the traditional landscape. Gillian’s landscapes have a mysterious misty or hazy quality about them, yet the colors are not washed out. They are vibrant and saturated, but have a sense of stillness to them. Gillian’s work has evolved from singular Night paintings, to the diptychs of Night & Day. Continuing with the diptychs, this body of work also marks Gillian’s foray into singular Day paintings.
