Cirrus Gallery is pleased to present Elements, an exhibition of new work from Seattle painter Gillian Theobald.

Further exploring the diptych format familiar from her previous 2001 exhibition Night and Day, Theobald delves into a dialogue with the earthly elements. Juxtaposing portraits of simplified forms of air, water, and fire, these large scale (42" x 92") smoothly rendered diptychs focus on light, space, and form more readily than traditional modes of landscape. Like her previous work, these recent diptychs are visually related to the light and space movement prevalent in Southern California in the late 1960s and early 1970s and suggest a reflection on the 19th century romantic tradition and American luminist painters.
