Born in 1955, Los Angeles native Jedd Garet spent his early years in Laguna Beach, California and New Canaan, Connecticut.  He later attended the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence and the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Emerging from the neo-expressionist movement of the early 1980s, Garet’s work signaled a dramatic return to figurative art.   The sleek, superhuman aspects in his paintings also revealed a stylistic interest in the late works of the Surrealist painter, Giorgio de Chirico.

An extremely popular movement in New York and Europe, neo-expressionism combined an interest in the human body and other recognizable elements, which were  rendered with various degrees of abstraction in an often blatantly emotional manner marked by loud, highly contrasting colors.  Other notable artists from this movement include Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, and Carlo Maria Mariani (Italy); Rainer Fetting, Amselm Kiefer, and Salome (Germany); Julian Schnabel, David Salle, and Jean-Michel Basquiat (USA).

In addition to exhibitions at Robert Miller Gallery (New York), Gagosian Gallery (Los Angeles) and Michael Kohn (Los Angeles), Jedd Garet was included in both the Whitney Biennial and the Venice Biennale.

The works in this exhibition date back to 1985, when Jedd Garet created them in the print workshop of Cirrus Editions.
